Polyurethane over prefinished engineered?

Just installed a 5 in engineered oak. Has a matte finish on it and my wife doesn't like it. She wants a higher gloss finish. Will it be safe to put down a polyurethane coat over the prefinished floor? Any special prep that needs to be done, other than the manufacturer recommendations? Thanks!

First off you should know that changing the finish will likely void the warranty. It might be a good idea to contact the manufactures and ask for their recomendation. Usually a light sanding and/or proper use of a deglosser will ready the surface for a fresh coat of poly.

I have several rooms with parquet floors that I applied poly to but they were factory seconds with no warranty. I wiped with deglosser and applied poly probably 7-8 yrs ago and have had no problems.
