Dirty scratches, heated floor

I just moved into an apartment with an area of horrendous scratches on the light colored wood floor that may have absorbed a lot of dirt. What can I do to make this area look better?

I should mention that I'm currently in Korea so the apartment has ondol heating (hot water pipes under the floor heat the room) so if the solution requires putting a substance on it, I'm guessing it shouldn't be heat sensitive.

Here's a link to a picture of the floor to give you a better idea:

Sand it to good wood and make it smooth, Several coats of urethane.
