sanding antique barn board oak flooring

Has anyone ever tried NOT sanding before applying the sealer coat. We just happen to like the look and feel of our antique barn oak planks and are questioning why sand it. it's come from the mill smooth to the touch. there are a few small spots where we will have to hand sand but why the entire floor???

Part of the reason for it would be to give the floor a consistent surface so stains and sealers absorbed evenly. Try it your way and see how you like it. Worst case scenario you're out a couple bucks for the extra sealer.

Primer or poly will adhere better to clean raw wood. Nature will weather wood in a manner that helps it withstand the elements. That said, it will probably be ok to apply poly as is.

Any areas you sand will likely be lighter than the naturally aged areas.
