Oil-based finish on engineered flooring?

I'm considering expanding my existing Bruce engineered flooring into another room. My existing flooring was installed by the builder, who has told me that the color is natural oak. However, the floor has a much more amber appearance than the natural oak flooring samples I've picked up at the hardware store.

Is it possible that the original flooring (which has a very glossy finish) had some sort of oil-based finish applied to it that may have "yellowed" the flooring? Can you even apply a finish coat to engineered flooring?

Thanks for your help!

I went ahead and tried this using Varathane, which looks good on my engineered flooring. In fact, I like my natural oak flooring much better after putting 3 coats of Varathane on it.
