Cool refinishing engineered wood floor

I am purchasing a house with engineered wood floors. the living room is a darker stained oak and kitchen and carolina room are lighter stained oak. I want to refinishe the darker oak to match the lighter oak...is this possible or is it too much to ask from an enginnered floor. thanks

From what I have seen, manufacturers say not to refinish. Engineered floors typically only have a very thin layer of wood vaneer would which would be eaten away in short order if a sander is used.

You could apply a tinted poly [if compatible with the floor's finish] and then top coat it with a couple coats of clear poly.

The problem with this method is if/when the tinted poly starts to wear away -the color will also wear off!!!
