Expansion Allowance Hardwood Floor

A contractor installed 625 Sq. Ft. of oak on a diagional in one large irregular shaped room.. He did a beautiful job but left no gaps against the walls for expansion. He says it will be no problem and he's been doing it for 20 years this way. Should I worry? Should I cut a border all around ?

It's not like floating floors where every plank adds movement to the next plank and so on right across a room. If the subfloor and flooring were moisture stable during installation, you shouldn't have a problem.

The traditional way to do floors in Japan is to actually cram the edge boards down tight, and initially too dry so the flooring clamps together.
