wood floor question

I have old solid maple wood floors I discovered under my carpet, the carpet has been removed. The finish on the floor has pretty much worn away. I plan on refinishing them but my question is is that our dog has been relieving herself on the floor and I cant get rid of the urine smell. Any one have any suggestions of how to deal with this?

Thanks,

If it has soaked into the wood, sanding is really going to bring it out. But, once you hit it with a dewaxed shellac based "universal sealer" and then top coat it, you will conceal it.
