hardwood to hardwood transition question
I need advice how to make the transition from hardwood floor in home addition to hardwood floor in living room. There is a height defference approx 2.5 inches. My ideas: small step, 5 inches wide ramp or custom made reducer.
What would be the best compromise between good look and safety?
Thnks, hen

No matter how you do it, a 2-1/2” transition in a 5 inch run between two rooms is going to be a bit of a trip hazard.
My suggestion would be that - especially if the floors in the two rooms have similar colors and textures - the transition include a piece of wood of contrasting color to produce a visual warning of the transition, and that if you are going to use a step, you incorporate lighting into the step to make the demarcation between the two levels even more apparent.
