Exclamation Drywall shims for bringing up a low spot in subfloor?

Can drywall shims be used for bringing up a 24" x 36" low spot in a plank subfloor before laying down underlayment for hardwood? I won't have to go any thicker than 3 drywall shims. I've got plenty to spare and they seem dense enough to me.

Thanks

im no expert but over time these will shrink and deteriorate. I would rip to fit then glue 2x2 and place them 16 on center in the needed area at least you would have even support over a longer span.

Yeah, the more I though about it, the more I didn't like the idea either. It's a small enough area I can just use ripped pieces of lumber. Thanks for the tip.
