Hardwood over Vinyl

Old house... hardwood floors...butt ugly vinyl on top of hardwood...

The floor in question is a converted front porch. We don't have to funds to rip vinyl up and refinish the hardwood, so two questions.

1. What is the least expensive flooring I could put down?

2. If we chose hardwood, could it be placed over top of the vinyl?

Thanks in advance

you could take the vinyl off, sand it, stain it and poly it yourself a lot cheaper then buying new wood floor.

I agree with previous poster. The wood you have is probably "heart pine", which is a beautiful wood. It should be cheaper to refinish than buy new wood anyways.
If you really wanted to, you could go over the vinyl with new wood though.
