Scraped hardwood floors! Aaaghh!

My housemates are in the process of moving out. One of them left huge scrapes in the floor; and lots of them. There is an outline of his bed made up of a dozen or so 1 1/2 x 3/4 inch scrapes! I just don't know what to do to cover/repair them. Scratch removal won't work, they are too deep. I don't know if they are considered gouges because of their size. I am really at a frustrated loss for words. My wife and I are renting the house from my sister and want to own this place someday. I know something like this won't go unnoticed to potential buyers. Furthermore, I need to have a plan of attack for this so I know how much to withhold from the housemate's prorated rent for the month. PLEASE HELP! Thanks so much.
