oak flooring

Can I install oak hardwood flooring over 12 x12 vinyl tiles that are glued down, or do they need to be torn up?

What type of oak flooring...solid or engineered? How are you wanting to install it....glued down/floated/nailed? What's under the vinyl tiles, and how long have they been there?

The flooring will be solid oak planks.
It will be nailed.
There is plywood underneath.
The 12 x12 vinyl tiles have been down 6 years.
And if it is ok would I still need to put tar paper over the tiles?
