stains on hardwood floor
#1

I have just moved into an older house, 1944 and hardwood floors have black furniture stains in some areas, I believe this comes from metal on bottom of legs (?) HOW do I get these out? The plan was to lightly sand and then apply a new coat of varathane I think it is ?

If the black marks are from furniture these can be sanded out. What happens over time is the dirt and dust that is in your home gets trapped under the legs of furnithre. When you move the furniture, it grinds the dirt into the surface of the floor.
Adding felt pads to the bottoms of the legs will help. Be sure to change the pads every six months. This is a lot cheaper than sanding and re-finishing the floor.
