Unhappy

We had our carpets glued down on our hardwood floors several years ago. Is there a product that can easily dissolve the glue without damaging the wood? It is very hard to get the underlay off. Thank you!!

Thumbs up

Isn't hindsite great. Glued down, YIKES!

We've run into this before. Use a solvent like Varsol and a dull putty knife. Apply the solvent with a rag to saturate a small area of adhesive. DON'T POUR ON THE FLOOR DIRECTLY!!! Once the glue is saturated, scrape off with the putty knife. Apply more solvent if necessary.

Depending upon the amount of glue and the size of the room, this might be a weekend project. Make sure to open the windows and use a fan in the window to exhause the fumes from the solvent. Rubber gloves are probably a good idea too.
