water proof hardwood floor

I installed hardwood floor in my kitchen. There are some gaps between the floor boards. What should I do to protect the hardwood from the water damaging and provent the water or other liqiud flow into the subfloor through gaps. The wood is oak. There are two finish on the floor. This is a new construction home. Thank you.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but you have big trouble ahead, and I can see it coming like a freight train. If you have gaps, your floor was installed incorrectly, not tight enough. It does not matter who installed it. You can do what you want to do, but anything other then tearing it out, and having it reinstalled by a professional, will only be a bandaid, once that water gets into your subfloor, dry rot will begin and the real damage will begin. You can try to seal it, others will give you hints of what to do, but always remember what I said. Remove and have it reinstalled. Good Luck
