hardwood floor nails

I know I have to use a straight nail for the starter board aswell as straigt nail it in approx 3/8 from the wall. what type of nails do you use for the first 5 or 6 boards as the nailer will not work thanks. I am sure I will have to drill and angle in them

I couldn't imagine not using a nail gun. A finish nailer will both face nail or toe nail thru the tongue. Just be sure to use a block of wood and hammer to set the boards in tight.

Marksr is correct. Just use your finish nailer and nail at an angle in the same place the flooring nailer will hit (on top of the tongue) until you can get the nailer in the mix. You will have the same problem as you draw to a close probably on the last 3 runs. If you continue to use the flooring nailer, you will have black marks on your wall where you scrub the hammer against it when you hit. You are too close at that point and should convert to the finish nailer.
