spot finish touch-up???

We have 3/4" oak flooring, installed 20+ years ago. We don't wear shoes, and are very careful with the furniture legs, etc. so overall, the finish is near-perfect still.. But just about 4 sq feet right at the entry has become somewhat grimy. Cleaning doesn't seem to fix it much. Is it possible to lightly sand that area, to get it a little cleaner, then hit it with some Diamond Varathane?

The flooring is the factory pre-finished ( Bruce ) and the color is natural oak, so that should mean that color match per se is not an issue, just the appearance of the new varathane.

How would you blend the new poly with old?
If this is in a foyer you should be able to do the entire room and not have it too noticeable.

Thank you for your input. That is what I was concerned about....blending.

It is not a foyer, just one large living room, and the area in question is just the first two feet where you step in. Shoes come off after that.

As you can see, I hope, it is not THAT bad, and you may be telling me to leave well enough alone??

Thank you,

I wouldn't sand unless you intend to do the whole room.
Maybe a different type of cleaner would help ??

I appreciate all the feedback. I will just work on cleaning it a little better.

Thank you,
