Cork Flooring expansion joint

Hello,
I have been told that you have to install an expansion strip if your room is 30 feet or longer in any direction. I am wondering if anyone has installed cork without this strip? What is going to happen if I do not use an expansion strip?
TIA

Welcome to the forums! In which direction will you be running your flooring. If longitudinally with the long dimension, no expansion would be neeeded. When installing flooring such as maple on a basketball court, there is an expansion about every 10 feet where the width is more than that. It amounts to the width of a fender washer stuck vertically above the tongue, not all the way to the floor, and not keeping the tongue from engaging the groove.
