Is this parquet flooring?
I'm a new home owner of a condo built in 1963. I pulled back my carpeting and uncovered a dusty wood floor of some sort. It looks a little like parquet, but it doesn't have the narrow rectangles like parquet normally does. The size of each square is 9x9. I posted some photos on Picasa at the link below. If anyone knows what it is, I would appreciate it!
I'm also curious about whether it would be worth refinishing. My original idea was to replace the carpet with bamboo, but if have hardwood I that is worth refinishing, I would do that instead.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Looks like solid oak parquet to me. (oak unit block) Kind of ugly tho, imo, even if it was refinished. It would take a lot of work but it could probably be completely sanded down and then could be refinished. But inspect the whole floor closely- if you have any tiles that are loose around the edges due to cupping, I'd suggest you have the floor replaced.

It looks that it is a red oak surface. I wouldn't call it parquet flooring, but it perhaps is either cut tile squares of solid oak panels, or cut tile squares of oak veneer possibly over plywood. As the grains are going opposite directions and that you would need to sand into the wood, I am not sure what level of scratches you would end up with going acrosss the grain for instance using a large belt sander for instance. To me the floor isn't all that interesting to look at either and compared to what your original option was around installing bamboo, IMO I would seriously still consider that as the best way to go.
