is quarter round molding necessary on laminate floors
Posted: October 24, 2011 5:51 PM
We just installed laminate flooring in a few rooms and to allow for expansions, there is a gap between the baseboard and the installed laminate. I read in many places that a quarter round molding will help close this gap, but as I see it, its done only for appearance. Is that right or is there another use to the quarter round molding in this case. Also, will dust accumulate in that gap if the molding is not there.
thanks!

Normally the gap is hid under the baseboard. If it's between the base and the flooring - it will fill with dirt over time. IMO shoe molding looks better than quarter round, it's not as wide..... but a lot depends on how wide your gap is.
