Oily residue on newly stained hardwoods

Hoping someone can explain why there is a slight oily residue on oil-based stain, oil-based polyurethane finished oak hardwood planks. Both products are Minwax. Light haze/residue on top of fully dry poly surface. Comments?

Welcome to the forums!

Was the wood clean and bare before the stain was appled? When were they stained/poly'd? How was it done? how many coats? What happens when you wipe of the residue?

Some Minwax stain colors (especially the darker colors) will bleed out of the pores on oak and need repeated wipings and longer dry times than what their instructions advertise. Is this what you are referring to?
