Subfloor on top of wooden parquet floors?

Hey everyone,

Has anyone put subflooring on-top of old wooden floors?

I'm about to install laminate in the first floor of my home, and I have realized that my kitchen, for some reason, has an extra layer of 3/4" subfloor on top of the original.

The hallway that goes to the kitchen has parquet wood floors, and I'd like it to be even with the kitchen when I lay the laminate down.

So would it be okay for me to lay down subflooring on top of the parquet wood floors to even it up with the kitchen? It only needs about 1/4" to be even, and I dont care about ruining it.

Anyone ever do anything like this, or is this just a bad idea?

Thanks!

To make a long story short, your idea sounds reasonable.

I have done what you propose with good results. Since you intend to install a floating laminate floor, being fussy about solid core underlayment versus 1/4 inch ply wood is probably not as important as it would be if you were using a vinyl product of some kind.
