protect hardwood floors as playroom

i want to turn my dining room into a playroom for the next 5-8 years... the only thing i really care about is the engineered hardwood floors in there...

whats the best floor covering to put down to protect them? if we put those interlocking foam tiles down -- would the floor get all scratched up under them? would we be better to cover it with a big sheet of linoleum instead?

The heavy interlocking tiles like you see in a gym or similar would be ideal...but the pro-grade stuff isn't cheap and the cheap stuff won't last. I might be concerned about how the rubber could react with the finish of the wood. You will probably be looking at a minor refinish after 5-8 years no matter what you put down. Any grit or dust that gets in there will cause some damage.
