Tile Over Hardwood Replacement UGH
So I'm looking for options on replacing the tile over hardwood that is currently installed in my home. As expected, the tile is beginning to pop up. I would really like to resurrect the wood floors underneath but I think it is beyond repair. Unless convinced otherwise, I will pop up the tile and put down engineered wood flooring. That seems to be the easiest solution to this problem. I'm not keen on going down to subfloor.
My question is, what is the best way to remove the mortar if I'm not worried about the hardwood underneath?
More than likely I will be doing this in sections as we must live in the home while the project is ongoing.
Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing a sledgehammer and safety glasses are in order. A rotary hammer with a chisel bit might help. It probably all depends on how tenacious the thinset is.

I agree with XSleeper, even a slammer type scraper may loosen the tiles up, since they are on hardwood. It is probably the least adherent underlayment I can think of.
