I have just purchased my first home. The house is in need of a good interior paint job and I am positive that under the carpet is a good oak floor. I have a week before I move in to do the projects best done without furniture in the way. My question is, do I paint first or do I refinish the wood floors? My second question is, do you necessarily need to sand a wood floor or if it is in good shape would it work to use a restore process to bring back the shine? thanks. By the way, this is one of the best sites I have visited and extremely informative.

Normally, you'd paint first.

And I don't think you're going to know what you have to do to that oak floor until you get a better look at it.
