What is happening to my wooden floor?

I am a relative DIY novice? Is anyone able to tell me what is affecting my wooden floors (picture attached). I am not familiar with the problem but want to diagnose so that I can best fix these patches as well as treat the floor (if at all possible) to prevent it getting worse.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Welcome to the forums Simon!

If you are referring to the peeled areas - that's where the floor finish has passed it's prime. Ideally you'd sand the entire floor and refinish. I suppose you could sand just the affected area and apply a coat of poly but it's next to impossible to touch up a floor and not have it noticeable.

Thanks for your advice. Will look to sand entire floor and refinish.
