wax for hardwood scratches?

I've seen lots of ideas for fixing scratches in hardwood floors: crayons, nuts, etc.. My question is this: Is it useful to put Butchers Wax over scratches? Thanks.

Are the scratches into the stain or just surface scratches.
If it just the poly that scratched then a light sanding and more poly.
Wax would just seal the wood and make it imposable to stain or seal with out removing all of it.

They are just a series of surface scratches from (supposedly) padded chair bottoms.

I've cheated and used wipe on poly for minor scratches. As long as it's not down to the stain it works.
