1968 Ranch likelyhood the rest of the house has hardwoods uner carpet?

I bought my house in 2011 and it has refinished hardwood floors in 2 bedrooms as well as the dining room. The master and family room are carpet. Can anyone tell me the likelyhood that there is wood floors under my carpet in these 2 rooms of the house? Thanks (house built in 1968 in Portland, OR if that helps)

No way for anyone to know.
Just pull the carpet back and look. A simple pair of plyers will work.

If you have floor vents, pull one and examine the edge under the carpet to see what's there.

I'm not a tile pro, but they always say that you cannot put tile directly over hardwood. You need plywood, thinset, CBU, thinset and then tile.

As Sam says, pull the hardwoods, install the thinset/1/4" cbu/thinset/tile, and it should come to a close match to the other hardwoods that abut it, hopefully eliminating the need for an ugly transition. This was 3/4" heart pine to tile.
