Interesting staircase

No question here, but I ran across this today. A lady is moving out of her house (hence the dirt), and I had to take note of her staircase design. I thought it was rather remarkable in design. Good use of shorts, too.

Definitely different! Were you able to tell how it was constructed below? regular stringers and 3/4" ply?

I was not. However, as sturdy as it was, it HAD to be framed, then 3/4" plywood/advantech to form it. Then the hardwood laid and fastened on that.

Well, it's interesting and different...but I'd hate to be taking a mattress up there.

I think it would have been even more striking if the had put a real light piece up the center of each tread and riser, with darker pieces to the sides. Similar to the first step.

That's a good point, Vic. I do think a little symmetry would have gone a long way with the board placements. Oddly the staircase winds enough so there is plenty of space to move things up and down. I took a 6' ladder down and had no problems swinging it, although I picked it up vertically so as not to touch the walls, but it really wasn't cramped.
