Hardwood floor finishes

I'm considering buying a house built in 1958. There are beautiful hardwood floors that were covered in the 70's with shag carpet. The carpet was removed to expose the original flooring that has a hi gloss finish. My question is does anyone know what they may have used for this finish in the late 1950's. I don't believe they used urethane that far back.

Lacquer was the most common although some used varnish. Shellac is also a possibility.
