Parquet Flooring

Hi Everyone,

I have an older condo in which I plan to redo the floors. I am a bit up in the air between laying down laminate floor and re-finishing the existing parquet. As evidenced by the attached photos, the parquet has some pretty rough spots.

Will sanding and refinishing these floors remove stains that bad or will I be left with the stains and discolored areas ?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Is the wood stained or is that in the finish?

If it's in the wood, you may be able to bleach them out.

Laminate is a last resort, I'd try to fix this first.

It is really quite hard to tell. I believe the floors are original from 1967 and I have no idea as to how long they may or may not have been covered by carpet.

I attached another image that might give a better look..

What would be the best way of determining if the wood is strained or if it is in the finish, short of getting a floor sander on them ?

nothing ventured, nothing gained ..... but I'd be surprised if you can sand/bleach those stains out

Go ahead and try a section and see how it goes [I've been wrong before] just don't get your hopes up
