We just bought a house with ceramic tile installed in the living area/dining/kitchen/hall. I can't stand ceramic tile, so we plan to replace it. My husband doesn't want to remove the ceramic tile - the house is older, but has been flipped, so the tile is brand new and in great condition; I just don't like it. His goal is to install a floating laminate floor and underlayer right over the top of the tile. We both thought this would be pretty easy, but were concerned about installing the laminate ourselves as we've never done anything like this before (we aren't big DIY'ers). We went to Lumber Liquidators and were told they wouldn't install flooring over ceramic tile because it would void the warranty of the laminate. I went to Lowe's last week, and was told basically the same thing - that they would require the tile to be removed first. We really don't want to remove the tile, so I'm starting to lean towards doing it ourselves. I've done some online research, but wanted to see if anyone here has any firsthand experience to share - whether you did it yourself or hired someone else to do it for you. How did it go? Would you recommend it? What's your experience level? My husband's concerned about the difficulty level, especially around doors and odd areas like in the kitchen...he wants to find someone who will install professionally. I've finally finished laying down my maple hardwood floors, with the exception of the very last row, which I've cut and fit in place but haven't nailed yet. The row meets a threshold of a doorway with a stone (marble?) threshold. Ideally, I'd like to cut a thin strip of wood and fit it against the threshold, but I'm wondering if that's a good idea. It's right across from my fireplace, where the wood is more or less flush up against it, as shown here: [url]https://www.dropbox.com/s/8kgu8mizj4t3woo/2015-08-15%2023.22.28.jpg?dl=0[/url] This is in a long room, where I started laying the floors at the opposite end of the fireplace, so the threshold is about 12' 9" from where it started. The flooring in the opposite end of the room was laid out from that "center" point with a spline to change directions. Safe? I'm not sure that it matters, but the wood has been well acclimated - it sat in the room for a good 2-3 months before I ever got around to laying the first plank. How should I finish that row near the threshold? I bought a piece of t-moulding that is made for a laminate floor that I was going to paint to color match the stain and was going to make the gap between the last row and the threshold wider to fit it, but if there isn't much harm in flush fitting I'd rather do that. Thoughts?
