Basement underlayment for laminate??

Basement underlayment for laminate??

I'm in Canada so product names may be different. I'm unsure which to.use In basement. I did see one that's 3 in 1 that let's the floors breath others say the are a vapour barrier I feel that's a bad idea...??

Not all laminates can be installed below grade. For those that can, you are best off following the particular manufacturer,s instructions as to vapor barrier and underlayment, otherwise, no warranty. There will almost certainly be a vapor barrier required.

How do u know I'f they can be? I guess on there instructions??

Yes, on the instructions, web site, box....

For example, if you go the Armstrong web site and pick a laminate, on the more info page it lists installation location as above/on/below ground level.

Have you done a moisture test on your basement floor? Have you had any water problems down there? Water and laminate do not mix and it is therefore usually a bad choice for a basement.

No water issues. How does test go again
tape a price of vapour barrier??

Tape a piece of clear visqueen about 3' square to the floor on all edges. Leave it for a few days. If you have moisture droplets form on the visqueen, you have moisture problems.
