Laminate installation
Hi, I am installing a new floor in an open concept area. The kitchen area is tiled with an island containing a sink, dishwasher and disposal. I am sure it is setting on the tile. From the living room to the kitchen area there is a rise in the floor under the carpet. I suspect there is tile board under the tile. When I remove the tile I may need to remove the tile board. My question now is how do I handle the island and cabinets? Do I cut the tile and maybe the board around them and then hide it with trim? Thanks.

One should always think twice about putting laminate in a wet or potentially wet area which a kitchen qualifies as one. Look into a quality engineered floating click lock floor. It looks like plywood from the side with real hardwood on the surface. It is much more stable and more forgiving should the dishwasher decide to blow on you (and it will).
You need to pull back the carpet to see what you are working with. Assuming there is a rise and its cause doesn't provide a warm and fuzzy for me if it was my installation. As far as the tile around the island, you need to pull back any shoe molding and get a good look at the transition. Most tiles floors are either tiled up to the cabinetry, or the cabinets are stilted so that the floor can be tucked underneath them.

I am considering the waterproof vinyl locking plank. I will pull back the carpet when the time comes. At the moment it is obvious when you step on it. There is no shoe molding to pull back. The holes around the pipes are to tight to see underneath. I will try something else to look underneath. I hope it is stilted.

I looked under the carpet along the back of the island today. It is setting on top of the tile with the cement tile board under the tile. Any recommendations how to handle this?

You have two choices - remove the cabinets so you can remove the tile or buy an oscillating saw and cut the tile and CBU flush with the edge of the cabinets.
