Is there a preferred direction laying laminate flooring?
I'm planning to put down laminate that will be installed over standard plywood on floor joists. Since there will always be some flex, is it better to lay the planks perpendicular to the floor joists or run them parallel. My hope is to minimize any squeaking or joint separation.Thanks for any words of wisdom.

If sub floor is proper then the laminate direction should not have to be determined by the structure of the sub-floor or floor joist. Usually the room size and shape, along with window lighting will determine the way a laminate or engineered floor will be put down.

Flooring usually looks better when the boards are parallel with the longer room dimension. I don't think joist direction is an issue with laminate. Hardwood floors are typically laid perpendicular to joists, but may be laid parallel with an adequate subfloor.
