Can the under pad from carpet be used as the underlay for laminate flooring?

I read the thread about not installing laminate over carpet, but what about the under pad for the carpet? If I remove the tack strips at the edges, can it be left as the underlay for the laminate? I have purchased underlay and can use it, I'm just thinking of all the time involved in lifting the under pad and making certain all the staples are out. If doing this is a bad idea, I would just like to understand why. Help Please!

The carpet pad is too thick. Laminate needs only a thin cushion and should be laid on as flat a surface as possible.
Laminate locking joints will separate if the material is allowed to bend or deflect. Getting it back together involves ripping out the floor, so you want your joints to be stable.

Agree with Brian, do not use carpet pad for laminate or any other type of click lock flooring.
