Because of time and cost the position I'm looking into is to lay a plywood plank floor (such as you see in a lot of DIY forums) over an existing hardwood floor. If ripping up the old hardwood isn't an option how would you go about laying the new planks over top?
I'm also limited to the new floor being no thicker than 3/4" over the old floor.
An example of what we're trying to achieve.

Thanks in advance for any support.

Welcome to the forums.
I'd only heard of this flooring one previous time. Does it have a wear-resistant finish applied? My biggest concern with plywood is that you would wear through it in short order.

My first question is why cover the existing floor, could it be refinished!
I just dont see a plywood floor being something that would last a long time or be all that appealing!

@stickshift ... I saw this for the first time a year ago and couldn't be convinced it wasn't actual hardwood. Since then I've met a contractor who has done it a few times and says it's a legitimate option. But he's never done it over the old floor. The plywood is finished with polyurethane and so has that durable top coat on it. There are several examples of this method being used in retail locations, and homes with children and dogs and the owners swear it's holding up after several years.
@Marq1 ... the existing floors are going to be useless after a few walls and a kitchen are removed so either way I need an alternative.

I believe the durability when I see it; poly on plywood does not sound durable enough for foot traffic to me.
