Should I sand the old treads or get new ones

We are re-doing our stairs. This is how it look like after the carpet is removed.

We are not sure whether we should get oak re-treads from home depot, or simply sand and re-paint them?

We'd like to have durable, beautiful stairs.

Thanks for your advice.

Its going to be a labor decision, replacing all that wood is going to take time, repairing all that wood is also going to take time.

You state paint, if painting then I would consider repair, if you meant stain then the repairs would probably look bad and replacement would be desirable.

What you have now are pine treads and risers ..... if that makes any difference to you.
