New hardwood floor = snap, crackle & pop noises

We recently had 2000 sq ft of 3 1/4 red oak hardwood flooring installed. We are now finding that the flooring in just one of the rooms is making a cracking/popping noise when walked on. The wood was allowed to acclimate in the air conditioned house for 10 days before the install. Its only in this one 180 sq ft room...rest of house is good. Is this normal? Will it eventually settle down? Should I go back on the contractor?

Welcome to the forums!

I assume they used an underlayment between the subfloor and the oak [roofing felt is the norm]
Was the subfloor secured well? If it's not the time to have fixed it would have been before the hardwood was laid. Definitely talk to your installer/contractor as he'll know more about what's going on than we will.

Yes to both underlayment and checking the sub floor. There were 8 guys doing the work. Could it be that the 2 that did this one room did something different in the way the woodwas nailed down?

Like maybe they weren't paying attention, ran out of nails and didn't notice?
