Drum sander vs orbital sander to re-finish hardwood floors?

Hi everyone, I have never taken on a project like this before. I am selling my home in April and in my kitchen there is vinyl sheet flooring that is in rough shape covering hardwood flooring. I want to sand and refinish the hardwood but not sure which sander would be best. I will have to get off a few spots of glue where the vinyl was secured to the wood. Is a drum sander best or an orbital one?

Thanks.

You will need both sanders. First the drum, then the orbital. And you will want to scrape as much glue off as you can with a floor razor scraper first. Glue will just gum up several expensive belts.

IMO you'd be better off not using the drum sander as they are not novice friendly. An orbital sander will take longer but it's unlikely you'd sand any dips into the floor.
