Recently bought a lake house that is fairly old (1920s?). We are remodeling the living room. My wife would like wood floors - but I'm afraid of what we will find when the rugs are pulled up. We can tell that the floor is not exactly level (understatemnet!) Any suggestions? (e.g. keep the carpeting?)

No easy answer here. The problem with old houses is you never know until you try. If you are going to replace the carpet and have to pull it up anyhow, than wait til you get it pulled to see what you are getting into.
Depending on how unlevel the floor is may depend on what you do with it. There are alot of differant products out there to choose from and finding the right one may be the biggest problem.
May even build the floor up with plywood to level, if not interferring to much with thersholds and all that.

Good luck.
