underlay ?

underlay ?

after some advice Im fitting solid oak floor to a old 1940s house plank old floor its in good shape and very even ,should i put an underlay down or not ?

What kind of flooring are you installing? And, what does the manufacturer recommend?

22mm oak planks ,it just says As with all timber flooring the product should be acclimatized before installation and provisions must be made for expansion. The flooring can be glued or nailed into position.

I would probably put plywood under it. The old plank floor will expand and contract which could cause problems with the new floor.
