Hi everyone. Connecticut here (USA). The wife and I are finally getting around to do the dining room and living room floors. My house is 121 yrs old. 1/2 sub 1/2 concrete. The living room and dining room are 1/2 sub. So I have original pine on living room. Dining room has plywood(I don’t know why). Plywood is solid, no signs of moisture, I don’t feel any structural problems(bouncing). We been here for 20yrs. We pretty much ripped the house apart, updated electric, insulation(which there was none), walls, etc… so. We are gonna go with a solid wood. But I want to put a vapor/foam barrier down before flooring. Do I need to worry about trapping the moisture underneath? If I lift the org pine in living room and the plywood in dining room there is dirt. It’s the ground. Maybe enough room for a cat(hunching). the ext of the house is stucco from ground up to roof. No entrance to crawl space(if you wanna call that). I do have a radon pump/motor for sub floor. But is that enough to move air around? I want vapor barrier down Bc it gets VERY damp inside. I put in a whole house dehumidifier.Bc there is dirt below. In the winter. Floors are cold, chilly. If I have to. I can put in vents on the ext of the front porch. But I don’t wanna go through 1” stucco, wire mesh, 3/4” tongue groove wood. It s*cks. I am installing about 1000 sq ft of flooring on the main floor of my house. I have a few general install questions, it's been a long time since I've done hardwood flooring. (15 years and it wasn't a big project). Most of the end of the flooring will go underneath baseboard... not much of a problem. There is a metal transition on one end where it meets a tile floor. (see picture) There is a part (see picture with two yellow arrows) where it will start in a stair nose piece, and end butted up against a tile transition. I was trying to keep the sleek look by using the tile transition pictured (see blue arrow). After install I realized this may make the hardwood flooring a bit trickier because I won't be able to "hide" the end under anything. This must be a fairly common setup, but I can't find any good info on it. Currently my hardwood that is coming out has a perpendicular piece running at the transition with the blue arrow. What is this called? Also, I have to cut the pieces on this end, so they won't have a grove (right?) ... so in this setup, those pieces aren't inserted in to the perpendicular piece? Also, I am going to switch one room to carpet. Do I use a perpendicular piece to end the hardwood? Can I transition straight from that piece to carpet? I like that look as opposed to using a transition piece. This is 3/4 inch hardwood, 5 inch wide.
