Wood filler not sticking in groove

Hey guys, we tried using wood filler to fill the groves in the hardwood floor and left it for 2 weeks to cure but then I saw it raise up a little and when I touched it, it became loose like in one stick. What else might I try please?

Wood filler is OK to fill cracks or dings that are IN the wood but not so much for grooves BETWEEN pieces of wood. This is especially true with old hardwood T&G floors that move with seasonal changes in humidity and foot traffic. What are you trying to achieve? No cracks or a smooth floor?

No cracks mainly, just something to fill the cracks to make it even with the floor.

In the first picture it appears that one of the edges of the groove portion of the floor board is missing. For a repair of that size (about 1/4 to 3/8 inch wide) you could use a strip of wood glued in after scraping out any dirt, old wax or finish.
