Our hardwood floors in our new townhouse are being scratched by our 60# dog whose toenails are properly trimmed. The flooring installer insists that 3 coats of polyurethane were put on the floors which I find hard to believe. Can this be true? We had polyurethanes hardwoods in our last house with no scratch problem.

Question

Being as it's a new hardwood floor perhaps the scratches are more noticeable? Different finishes will also show damage more so than others. Regardless of whether you use five coats or three they will scratch. High gloss will show more than satin for example
