I used some mosquito killer spray in the bedroom and when it touched the floor, it messed it up...In other area I have little drops of stripping liquid (very tiny)...Bottom line...in some area the poly is now missing. ....Can I touch up with poly? How can I figure the right colour? Should I steel wool the whole board first? Please, help. TX.

Touching up poly

If you used a mosquito killer inside your home that had the capability to remove floor finish, I don't think this is a safe product for interior use. Most poly finishes are clear. If you lost color, the insecticide permeated the layers of poly, bleached out the stain, and entered the wood. If this is what happened, then the project will require removing the finish, sanding to fresh wood, matching the stain, and refinishing. If you did not lose color, it is possible to repair the finish layers as you suggested. I am assuming this is not a prefinished hardwood flooring product, but a floor that was sanded and finished within the home. Should you have a prefinished hardwood flooring product, it would be advisable to contact the manufacturer.
