Question

I will be installing 3/4 tongue and groove Bruce flooring over a level existing subfloor. Should I put roofing felt down on the subfloor before installing the wood floor?
Secondly, due to the nature of the hallway, it may be necessary to run the flooring parallel to the floor joists to avoid a "ladder" appearance. Will this create a problem with the attachment of the wood floor to the subfloor since much of the nailing will not be done in joists?

Install Wood floors

Most folks put down the vapor barrier beneath the hardwood. If installed over a crawl space, there should be a polyethylene vapor barrier over the soil. Wood is usually installed perpendicular to the joists.
