What's the easiest way to remove carpet glue?

We want to restore the wood floors in our home but they have carpet glued down to them. Is there an easy and inexpensive way to remove the carpet and glue with out hurting the underlying wood?

We are amatures at this so please be specific, step by step so we don't mess anything up.

Any help would be appriciated.

Removing carpet glue

I have been reading forum posts where folks have had success using a citrus stripper. Read and follow directions. Test any product in an inconspicuous area to see the effects before proceeding.

replacing subfloor around a toilet, and replacing shutoff valve

I am in the process of replacing rotten subflooring around my toilet, and I am having a gillion questions. The area that was cut out was not in straight lines, so I got in the crawlspace to trace around the new subfloor to match the lines that were cut. The wax ring and the flange are still on the pipe and we did this cutting with this on. We tried to remove the shutoff valve from the copper piping, but it sprung a leak and would not come off. So, being the geniuses that we are, we cut the whole shutoff valve off and bought a new one to replace the old. This way we could slide the new subfloor over the pipe with no trouble. Now we are having problems getting the new subfloor to go into the hole and matching up around the flange. Do I need to remove the flange and wax ring before we put the subfloor in, and also we are putting the tile that was there before back in. Half of the subfloor is already nailed in place, and we discovered we needed to put more 2x6's in and now we cannot get to the crawlspace without either ripping up the new subfloor, or ripping out some drywall in the basement laundry room where the access used to be. I'm not sure that the subfloor will be level either when we get it in, it did have 1/4 inch plywood on top of 3/4 inch, but now it looks like we only need 1/4 inch towards the back of the toilet.
