fiberboard underlayment

Yeah! After nearly a year of trying to decide on flooring, we have finally decided on Pergo Presto. I spoke with a friend who recently installed Pergo and they put fiberboard from IKEA underneath the foam pad. He said it greatly reduced that hollow sound. Anyone heard of doing this or see any problems with it?

Pergo offers a "soft board" sound deadener for this purpose. So do most other brands, by the way.

FYI....

I looked on the pergo website and they don't offer the fiberboard anymore. I called the company and they replaced that with an upgraded foam pad because of possible termite infestation with the fiberboard.

Laminate underlayment

If you are buying a product with a warranty, going with manufacturer's recommended underlayment is always best.
