Nails in hardwood floor

I am refinishing a 75 yr old floor. A few surface nails are showing. Everything I have read tells me to countersink the nails and use filler in the hole. This looks worse than the nail heads to me. I want to finish over the nails, but am concerned that the finish will try to pop off the nail or otherwise fail. I will be using a urethane finish on oak. Any help out there?
Thanks Marty.

Filling nail holes in wood floors

It is recommended that you countersink nails. In general, holes are filled before sanding with a recommended wood flooring filler. Go to www.finishingwoodfloors.com for helpful info.
